Alert! is an application. The basic program can either be run from a floppy disk, or copied to a hard disk on the machine and run from that.
If you are only going to use Alert! to diagnose the machine it is loaded onto (not any other machines via a network or modem), merely copy the Alert! program to the hard disk.
